This song was inspired by all the hardships and challenges we face each and every day. I have gone through so many obstacles personally, and even mine do not compare to what other people have to endure. Put your own challenges in perspective and learn from them. Continue to grow and learn at every opportunity.
We worked on this song for months before recording. It has a complexity that makes it unique in comparison to other songs by starting in a 3/4 time signature at a slower tempo and then changing tempo and time signature to 4/4 and finally switching back to 3/4 at the quicker tempo. Victim to the Man originally didn’t have the echo of the guitar and was sung straight through. After channeling our love for Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and other inspirational artists, my husband Marc and I thought it would sound more bluesy if we had the guitar echo the vocal melody. This was the first song we really took our time to craft to make it the best it could possibly be, and we think we nailed it!
